The Department of Philosophy at the University of Cincinnati is hiring a Visiting Assistant Professor with an Area Specialization (AOS) in Ethics, Applied Ethics, or Bioethics.
This is a full-time, one-year, non-tenure-track position beginning in August 2022. The teaching load is 3-2 (Fall and Spring). Our teaching needs include a mix of on-campus and online (asynchronous) classes.
The Department of Philosophy is a PhD-granting department with strengths in philosophy of science, philosophy of cognitive science, and moral psychology. We offer undergraduate degrees in Philosophy and in Cognitive Studies, as well as a Philosophy minor and Bioethics certificate.
Essential Functions
• Teach a mix of on-campus and online (asynchronous) classes.
• Teach several of the following lower-division courses: Introduction to Ethics; Sex and Death; Philosophy and the Environment; The Meaning of Life; Contemporary Moral Issues; Business Ethics; and Medical Ethics.
• In addition to teaching, duties will include holding office hours, participating in department events, and supervising and mentoring teaching assistants.
• Utilize learning management system (Canvas).
Minimum Requirements
• Prior to effective date of the appointment, a PhD in Philosophy or a related field.
• Experience as primary instructor for an undergraduate course in Philosophy, in person or online, for at least one semester.
