This day-long program will provide an intensive introduction to ethical and practical issues that arise in contemporary healthcare practice. Aimed at providing healthcare professionals with a basic, but substantive overview of the ethical and social frameworks needed to identify, understand, and address ethical challenges within their institutions and practices, this program will examine common methods and central topics in healthcare ethics through lectures and case-based discussion. Topics considered will include informed consent, decision-making capacity, surrogate decision making, end-of-life care, and the importance of culturally congruent care.
AUDIENCE: This workshop is aimed at all healthcare professionals, students and instructors in the health professions the health humanities, members of hospital ethics committees, and any person who has a special interest in healthcare ethics.
