OhioHealth is seeking a System Director of Clinical Ethics to lead our team. The successful candidate will direct the work of the Clinical Ethics Consultation Service, an active, well-integrated service that conducts over 550 consults annually; develop and promote clinical ethics resources across the system; and serve as an expert resource for system leadership and medical staff.

This position reports to the Vice President, Mission, Ministry and Ethics and is located in Columbus, Ohio.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage Clinical Ethics staff;
• Collaborate with staff Clinical Ethicists to provide ethics consultation and ensure accountability for quality;
• Ensure consistent and appropriate consultation documentation in the medical record and expand and manage a secure intranet database for documentation of clinical ethics consults;
• Co-lead the system-level Joint Ethics Advisory Committees (EAC) and facilitate the work of site-based EACs;
• Identify yearly priorities for policy development, research, legislative advocacy, and education;
• Partner with OhioHealth Community and Government Relations in formulating and implementing OhioHealth response to relevant legislative matters;
• Identify ethics-related needs across the institution and develop initiatives to address those needs;
• Oversee development and review of ethics-related system policy and protocols;
• Lead the due diligence process related to clinical ethics for potential new operating units and develop plans to bring new sites into alignment with OhioHealth clinical ethics standards of practice;
• Serves as Liaison with the Decedent Affairs Office in maintaining OhioHealth values and standards of practice related to organ and tissue donation;
• Develop and provide ethics education for a broad range of health care professionals and learners.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree (required) or doctoral degree (preferred) in an ethics-related field; degree or certificate in applied/clinical ethics (preferred).
• Healthcare Ethics Consultant – Certified (HEC-C) preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience conducting ethics consultation and facilitating ethics committees.
• Demonstrated competency in leading development of ethics policies and protocols.
• Experience in developing and ensuring the quality of ethics committee activities and case consultation.
• Knowledge of ethical theory, forms of moral reasoning, legal aspects of clinical care, the regulatory environment related to clinical care, and relevant issues in medical ethics.
• Familiarity with the United Methodist Social Principles as they apply to clinical ethics preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to apply cross-cultural and interfaith knowledge to clinical ethics issues.
• Ability to maintain collegial and collaborative interdisciplinary relationships .
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
