School of Public and Population Health
The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston

The Institute for Bioethics & Health Humanities (IBHH) at the University of Texas Medical Branch invites applications for the Clinical Ethics Fellowship, part of our broader Research Fellowship Program, for Sept 1, 2025 through Aug 31, 2026. The goal of the Research Fellowship Program is to give scholars protected time to focus on their research while also integrating them into the everyday life of a dynamic, multidisciplinary institution within a health science center. More specifically, the Clinical Ethics Fellowship provides the opportunity for intensive training in clinical ethics consultation in a variety of health care settings and diverse patient populations, such as critical care, pediatrics, and carceral care. The Fellow will learn an approach to ethics consultation that is informed by the humanities and will conduct research on bioethics and health humanities in line with their interests. The Fellow will increase the points of contact between the Clinical Ethics Consultation Service and patients, families, faculty, and staff at our Galveston and other campuses. The program is tailored to meet the strengths and needs of each individual and involves a one-year, full-time commitment with an option to extend for an additional year at the program director’s discretion.

Scholars should have a terminal degree (PhD, JD, or MD/DO) and research interests that interface with bioethics and health humanities. To apply, please submit a CV and a letter describing your interest in this program, including your research project(s) and potential topics for a graduate seminar. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until filled.

In addition to a salary, scholars will receive health insurance, professional development funds, office space, computer, library access, and various other UTMB benefits.

Interested applicants must submit a letter of interest with a description of experience, research interests, and career goals, along with their curriculum vitae to Marisela Sifuentes at (ethics@utmb.edu).
