Our institute is developing training and resources for RCR as well as assessment tools and new initiatives to address critical research infrastructure and personnel needs. These tools and approaches will be evaluated using qualitative and quantitative measures that capture individual experiences and performance, and also will be subject to newer techniques for measuring organizational culture, capacity, and change. Our research footprint covers sites around the globe where our US and collaborating international research partners address critical areas for improving health.

RCR research projects can include development and evaluation of novel educational models and interventions for RCR education and training; creation and validation of organizational strategies and tools for improvement in research leadership, functioning of research units and teams, and other aspects of scientific organization; creation of training modules and evaluation for specific technical areas of scientific work such as data management, statistical analysis, rigor and reproducibility; and training for principles and practice of study design in preclinical and clinical research. Research projects can also include development and evaluation of modules to address new and emerging RCR topics such as scientists’ social responsibilities; promoting and supporting diversity in the research work force; responsible use of AI applications in research; challenges of managing and governing big data research; establishing and maintaining equitable research collaborations, particularly in the international setting, and other emerging topics within RCR.
