About

The American Journal of Bioethics is the leading journal in the field of bioethics, publishing original contributions that explore domestic and global ethical challenges in health care, medicine, public health, and the life sciences. Twelve issues are published each year, containing peer-reviewed scholarly target articles, open peer commentaries, editorials, book reviews, and case studies in clinical care and research ethics.

Our contributors come from a wide range of professions and academic disciplines, providing authoritative, annotated conversations that have been used by judges, politicians, journalists, scholars, schoolteachers, and millions of others as the key source on thousands of topics in the health sciences. The American Journal of Bioethics has followed through on the innovative vision that built bioethics: serious discussion of the social implications of biomedicine.

Bioethics Today

The BioethicsToday website is currently maintained by the editorial staff of The American Journal of Bioethics.  In service to anyone interested in bioethics, the website publishes information on the latest journal publications, events, job opportunities, and various resources. The site also includes original blog authorship by world-renowned bioethicists.

The Journal

Founded in 1999, The American Journal of Bioethics provides readers with comprehensive, peer-reviewed scholarship about ethical issues in medicine and the biomedical sciences. The journal offers publications covering many disciplines including healthcare, medicine, public health, philosophy, biomedical science, religion, law, health services research, and social work. Each issue of AJOB includes Target Articles that zero in on a pressing problem, followed by Open Peer Commentaries that provide access to all facets of the issue at hand, across disciplines and methodologies, so that both the practical and theoretical are up for discussion.

Following a decade of climbing to the top of all bioethics journals, AJOB expanded into the AJOB Family of Journals, owned and published in print and online by Taylor & Francis Group. The Family would now include journals on neuroscience and empirical research, each independently managed. The result is a scholarship that meets the needs of the teacher, the casual reader, the researcher, the policy analyst, the student. Please see below for information about each journal.
