Hwang Woo Suk is himself recovering from ulcers, as you can see in this photo shoot from his hospital bed, and soon to return to seclusion in South Korea, but after the new wrinkle in this case – involving the shuffling around (inadvertently we are told) of photographs of the cell lines from the landmark cloning article – the last thing Dr. Hwang needed was today’s yesterday’s news that the collected Deans of his own Seoul National University have called for verification of his research results.
UPDATE: Today’s installment: Korea Herald reports that the key Korean stem cell researchers that had been stationed at the Schatten lab at University of Pittsburgh, who disappeared from the lab at exactly the moment this whole scandal broke, are not in fact seeking U.S. citizenship. Clearly Tony Soprano and Pauly Walnuts the guys who flew over from the Korean stem cell program to help were persuasive.
