Joey Adkins is the subject of this Birmingham News story about the ordeal that so often comes along with protracted care of patients in persistent vegetative state. Mr. Adkins, whose parents won a lawsuit against University of Alabama at Birmingham’s hospital for malpractice in Joey’s case, is entitled to “perpetual care” at UAB. The story is amazing, one of the most interesting and problematic PVS cases I have seen.
