This presentation from David Craig, PhD will argue that bioethics should expand beyond traditional patient autonomy to support broader “health-seeker agency” based on a study of Indiana’s Medicaid expansion program.

Indiana expanded Medicaid through the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP). As designed, HIP gives members personal responsibility incentives to “take charge of their health care.” Drawing on a community-valued study with HIP members and stakeholders across the state, this talk proposes an expansion of bioethics from protecting patient autonomy to a broader moral investment in supporting health-seeker agency.
