Ethics courses can be made much more influential and attractive if the attendees are engaged by a highly qualified, stimulating and inspiring educator. But teaching ethics is often challenging due to a variety of factors, particularly when the attendees are studying or working in a completely different professional area such as medicine, nursing or health administration. This workshop is set up to enhance ethics educators’ skills and abilities. The workshop should be particularly helpful to those who have recently been tasked with teaching ethics, be it at a college/university, a health care system, a company, or an NGO. However, past experience has shown that more senior ethics educators participating in this workshop find the collegial exchange of ideas and experiences equally stimulating and inspiring.

Whereas internationally renowned experts in ethics will introduce various themes, the core of this seminar will be a sustained conversation and critical debate among all participants, with ample time for personal reflection and networking. Academic sessions will be held at the beautiful former abbey of Rochefort-du-Gard, dating back to the Middle Ages, and will be alternated with cultural excursions. Each participant is encouraged to prepare a short presentation, to be given during the seminar. While this presentation may cover a completed ethics education project, the primary purpose of these sessions is to discuss upcoming teaching assignments, ongoing innovations, or any other ethics education related endeavor that will spark discussion. For each presentation, at ample time will be set aside for feedback and in-depth discussion. A maximum of 20 participants will be admitted.
