Major Duties & Responsibilities:
A commitment to high-quality, innovative, student-centered teaching is essential for this position. Expected teaching load is likely 4-3. Our need is to develop applied philosophy/ethics courses to engage our health sciences students. There are opportunities to develop a variety of electives, given candidate’s interests and departmental needs. This might include creative development of courses on public health ethics, healthcare policy, introductory ethics, or introductory-level philosophy of science/medicine courses (i.e., emphasizing epistemology/metaphysics of the clinic and laboratory). We have no current need for business ethics. Candidates will support existing departmental teaching needs in upper-level courses, which may include Bioethics, Healthcare and Human Values for pharmacy students, and Research Ethics for graduate students. Candidates may also help improve both our medical humanities minor and our campus gen ed requirements. Within the BS Public Health program, you will engage students in the classroom, but may also support independent study and capstone students, and mentor students, some of which in the past have led to student and collaborative publications.
Candidates will be expected to make appropriate contributions in the areas of service. This may include service to: the PHS department; faculty/administrative committees; undergraduate advising; student organizations; professional organizations; and communities outside ACPHS.
A strong plan for scholarship is encouraged but not required for this position. Our department supports junior faculty in developing their research programs and encourages interdisciplinary partnerships within campus and in the Albany community.
