Western University's School of Health Studies invites applications from exceptional scholars for an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Limited-Term (five years). The School of Health Studies, one of seven schools in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), is home to a large undergraduate Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc) program, and contributes to the Faculty wide Health & Rehabilitation Sciences graduate program and the Advanced Health Care Practice graduate program and the Interfaculty Program in Public Health.

The School of Health Studies is a leader in interdisciplinary impactful and international research, education and knowledge mobilization regarding health and wellbeing. Our mission is to nurture the creativity and critical thinking of tomorrow’s global leaders in health and wellbeing. Our innovative research programs address health and wellbeing across the life course including marginalized populations in general. Our undergraduate BHSc curriculum provides students with foundational and specialized training in the six dimensions of health (personal, mental, interpersonal, ecological, sociocultural, sociopolitical) studied through the lens of equity and social justice. The interdisciplinary focus of SHS is unique in FHS making it an ideal place to examine rapidly evolving health environments and diverse health-related experiences. We are engaged in international research and scholarly activity in areas such as health promotion, health policy, public health, law, health equity and sustainability, and digital health.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated capacity to contribute to a diverse academic community and the SHS Strategic Plan. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in the health sciences (e.g., health sciences, public health, bioethics, social epidemiology etc.). We are seeking applicants conducting research in Canada and/or globally on health emergencies (for example but not restricted to): infectious disease outbreaks, climate change, opioid crisis, famine, war, and engage in ethical analysis (including a focus on equity). Each position will have a workload of 40% Teaching, 40% Research, and 20% Service. Successful candidates will have opportunities to collaborate with FHS’s research Centres and Institutes (e.g. Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging, Centre for Research on Health Equity and Social Inclusion and the Rotman Institute of Philosophy). Applicants must be committed to providing high quality, innovative and contemporary teaching and mentoring at graduate and undergraduate levels, in line with Western’s Data Strategy as well as its Indigenous Strategic Plan.

The effective date of these appointment is July 1, 2025, or as negotiated. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
