The Opportunity
The University of Central Florida (UCF) Department of Philosophy (CAH) and the Medical Education Department (COM) seek candidates for a jointly-appointed tenure-track assistant professor position to begin August 8, 2024. This is a full time, nine-month faculty position with a joint appointment between CAH and COM, with an expected supplemental summer teaching appointment in COM.
The position will be split between sixty-percent (60%) effort in the Department of Philosophy and forty percent (40%) in Medical Education Department. The faculty member’s tenure home will be in Philosophy, with annual evaluation in both Philosophy and Medical Education. The faculty member will teach on a 3/2 schedule, with a 2/1 annual course commitment in Philosophy and a 1/1 annual course equivalent commitment in Medical Education.
Candidates should anticipate the expectation of sustained research and teaching excellence across their appointments.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Philosophy or relevant field from an accredited institution.
Experience teaching Bioethics or Medical Ethics.
Preferred Qualifications:
A candidate with preferred qualifications will bring a cross-section of skills and experience including at least a relevant subset of the following:
– Area of competence (AOC) in Medical Humanities.
– Previous experience teaching in medical education (e.g., undergraduate, graduate, or continuing education).
– Research or teaching experience or interests in applied ethics, ethics and technology, or environmental ethics (including public and population health ethics).
– Demonstrated record of publication and/or grantspersonship.
