The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an experienced Clinical Ethicist and Educator to join their faculty (rank and track will be commensurate with experience and qualifications). The successful candidate will join faculty and fellows who lead premier Clinical Ethics Consultation Services in the Texas Medical Center. The successful candidate will also direct, coordinate, and teach courses in medical ethics for a medical education program and will be expected to contribute to other multidisciplinary education programs and to conduct high quality independent
and collaborative research and scholarship.

Primary duties and responsibilities:
• Conduct ethics consultations independently for a high-volume Ethics Consultation Service.
• Collaborate in hospital administrative activities and participate in Ethics Committee and subcommittee meetings.
• May contribute to the training of Clinical Ethics Fellows.
• Direct, coordinate, and teach in the EnMed Program, a collaborative venture between the Texas A&M University College of Medicine, College of Engineering, and Houston Methodist Hospital, where students earn degrees in engineering and medicine within a blended four-year graduate program.
• Participate in the Center’s other medical education programs at Baylor College of Medicine, teach in our bioethics intensive course, and provide educational lectures in medical ethics at affiliated hospitals.
• Conduct high quality independent and collaborative bioethics research and scholarship.
• Contribute to the intellectual and scholarly life of the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Terminal post-graduate degree, such as MD, PhD, JD, or the equivalent in a field related to bioethics
• Advanced training/fellowship in clinical ethics strongly preferred; HEC-C certification preferred
• The applicant must have significant experience conducting clinical ethics consultations as an independent clinical ethics consultant. Ideally, this experience would include conducting ethics consultations in both the tertiary hospital setting and the community hospital setting
• Educational leadership experience is desirable
• Demonstrated record of scholarship in bioethics and excellence in teaching/mentoring
• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
• Ability to mitigate conflict and communicate compassionately with patients and families
