The Department of Bioethics and Interdisciplinary Studies at the Brody School of Medicine announces an immediate opening for one fixed-term or tenure track Teaching Assistant or Associate Professor, or Assistant or Associate Professor position.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, teaching bioethics, research ethics, and/or applied areas of the humanities in the medical sciences to medical students, residents, graduate students, and learners and clinicians in other healthcare fields within the Brody School of Medicine and other health-related programs. Responsibilities also include other activities related to funded scholarship.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with credentials and experience.

The Department of Bioethics and Interdisciplinary Studies at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University carries out a four-fold mission of professional education, research, service, and clinical ethics consultations. The department teaches required courses in all four years of medical school, including courses on the ethical and social aspects of medicine in the first and second years, case-based ethics seminars with third-year students during their various clinical clerkship rotations, and electives in ethics, law, philosophy, history, literature, end-of-life issues, spirituality, leadership, social policy, and medical ethics and war for fourth-year students. The faculty also teach in the Honors College, the PA program, and offer a graduate research ethics course. Department website: https://bioethics.ecu.edu.

A terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., J.D., D.H.C.E.) from an appropriately accredited institution in a relevant discipline is required. Exceptional applicants who have completed all-but-dissertation requirements for a terminal degree may be considered. Strong academic credentials and formal training in ethics are important All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. ABD candidates will be appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to his/her first reappointment.
