PEDIATRIC ETHICS FELLOWSHIP
Everything we do here is driven by one purpose: To create a world of wellbeing for children. That world begins with the wellbeing of our future pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists. Our program is designed to bring balance and flexibility to your training experience through a culture of support.

Children’s Mercy Kansas City invites applications for a one-year fellowship in Pediatric Ethics. The fellowship will be based in the Children’s Mercy Bioethics Center. Fellows will participate in all clinical, educational and research activities of the center. They will also complete a mentored research project on a topic of their choice in pediatric bioethics. They may participate in meetings in our Genomic Medicine Center, Fetal Health Center, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Ethics Committee, Palliative Care Service, Nurse Ethics Forum, or other areas of interest around the hospital, the medical school or the city.
Applicants should have a terminal degree in medicine, philosophy, nursing, social work, religious studies, law, economics or other field related to pediatrics and pediatric bioethics. Preference will be given to applicants with:
• demonstrated interest in ethics
• prior scholarly publications
• excellent writing skills
• evidence of leadership potential.

WHY THE BIOETHICS CENTER
In difficult situations, emotions often run high as pediatricians, children and parents may disagree about what is best for a child. Sometimes, everybody is simply perplexed. Doctors and families need help to understand the source of conflicts and work constructively to resolve disagreements for the best care of the child. Children’s Mercy has made an extraordinary commitment to build a pediatric bioethics center. We are working with clinicians and families to identify ethical dilemmas and respond to them. We are teaching others through publications in medical journals, through presentations at national and international meetings and through the nation’s first certificate program in pediatric bioethics.
