JOB SUMMARY
This position combines research management and academic research skills. This classification requires the use of judgment and discretion in performing the assigned duties and responsibilities related to the project. Assist with the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, writing and dissemination of the assigned project(s).
The primary tasks for the Research Assistant will be to conduct research and manage project(s). The Research Assistant will use social science methods and have skills and experience in qualitative research (specifically conducting interviews, online focus groups, and qualitative coding); quantitative research (specifically survey development, validation, administration, and statistical analysis); mixed methods; and conceptual research. The main project is based on an NIH R01-funded study to identify and measure the strength of factors that impact physician willingness to address patient medical misinformation and the perceptions of patients towards receiving corrections from physicians.
The Research Assistant will also be responsible for additional conceptual and empirical projects on a range of topics including the use of AI in patient education, regenerative medicine ethics and policy, and health disparities. Additional tasks include literature reviews and summaries, IRB submissions, project management, manuscript preparation and dissemination, and written and oral and communication with investigators. The Research Assistant will be encouraged to present findings at local and national meetings. The candidate will be required to work relatively independently and communicate with the Principal Investigator regularly.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Master's degree with four years’ relevant experience in a research or laboratory setting; or, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
-Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with at least four years of relevant research experience
-Demonstrates knowledge of scientific principles
-Strong computer skills
-Strong communication skills
-Public speaking experience
-Ability to prepare grant proposals with minimal supervision
-Peer reviewed publications, plus oral or poster presentations at national meetings
-At least one letter of recommendation from faculty
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Works with PI and staff to coordinate the successful and timely completion of tasks that comprise the implementation, data collection and analysis phases of the project to include, but not be limited to, planning, development, implementation, evaluation, writing and dissemination of the study findings.
2. Work with project PI or senior personnel to ensure that all aspects of the study are conducted in accordance with the study protocol and grant/contract. Ensure that all study activities comply with state and federal regulations and guidelines, as well as all requirements of the Medical School and University.
3. Participate in the preparation of progress reports and monitoring quality control.
4. Assist in preparation of posters for study/project(s), and in preparation of posters for national and local scientific meetings.
5. Attend and participate in meetings related to the planning, operation, and evaluation of the study/project, as needed.
6. Perform literature reviews and write summaries.
7. Contribute to the writing of scientific papers for publication from study results.
8. Participate in the writing of new/additional grant proposals.
9. Assist with the budget preparation for new grants and/or projects.
10. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
