Baptist Health is hiring a Senior Clinical Ethicist to join the Bioethics Program at Baptist Health. This is a full-time opportunity located on the downtown Jacksonville campus of Baptist Health.

The Bioethics Program at Baptist Health System enjoys broad organizational support and is looking to hire a senior clinical ethicist to join our well-established, collaborative, growing Team. Working closely with other members of the Ethics Program, the senior clinical ethicist will share responsibility for receiving requests for and conducting ethics consultations independently, documenting consultations in a timely and thorough manner in the electronic health record, and following up with patient cases after referral. The senior clinical ethicist will need to be comfortable working in a clinical setting, engaging directly with care providers, professional staff, patients, and families. The senior clinical ethicist will work closely with other members of the Ethics Program to deliver high quality ethics consultation services with compassion and respect as they help the multidisciplinary Team grapple with difficult ethical issues that permeate the clinical landscape. Ethics consultations are offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. As such, clinical ethicists will be expected to participate in on call services on a rotating basis, which may include days, evenings, weekends, and holiday coverage for the entire health system. The senior clinical ethicist will lead efforts that foster consistent development and quality enhancement of our busy ethics consultation services. Working alongside ethics program Team members, the clinical ethicist will help track ethics consultations, identify recurring issues and areas for quality improvement, and work to develop process improvement initiatives.

In addition to responding to requests for ethics consultations, the senior clinical ethicist will engage in preventative ethics activities, including but not limited to participating in monthly Bioethics Performance Improvement Case Conferences, rounding on units throughout the Health System, partnering with Ethics Liaisons and Ethics Program colleagues to provide moral distress debriefs across the Health System, and offering guidance on clinical and organizational ethics issues as identified across the Health System.

The senior clinical ethicist will deliver high-quality bioethics education throughout the health system. The Ethics program is responsible for developing and delivering bioethics education to medical residents, PA, ARNP, medical, and nursing students, in addition to multidisciplinary healthcare Team members across the Health System through both scheduled programs and as needed. Proactively, clinical ethicists will identify opportunities for providing bioethics education on units across the health system in order to continue to enhance the existing offerings of the Ethics Program and meet the evolving needs of multidisciplinary Team members.

The senior clinical ethicist will engage in clinical ethics research and scholarship with colleagues and independently, contributing to the clinical ethics literature and presenting at local, regional, and national conferences. Working with colleagues within the Ethics Program and across the Health System, the Senior Clinical Ethicist will help to develop, review, and revise ethics-related policies. They will also work with multidisciplinary colleagues on Health System committees and working groups, lending expertise and insight on clinical and organizational ethical issues.
