The Montefiore Einstein Bioethics Fellowship is a competitive one-year clinical ethics fellowship with opportunities for mentored scholarship and teaching. The Fellowship aims to prepare its graduates for careers in bioethics consultation and bioethics education.
Fellows will engage in high-level study of bioethics with both guided and self-driven academic curriculum. Fellows will spend the bulk of their year learning to perform ethics consultation in real-time in the setting of our high-volume service. By the completion of the fellowship, fellows will be equipped to conduct ethics consultation independently and will have sufficient hours and training to qualify for the Health Care Ethics Consultation (HCEC) certification exam. Fellows will participate in bioethics case conferences, will sit on the institution’s bioethics committee, will complete intensive bioethics mediation training, and will deliver presentations to the clinical ethics community.
Applicants will have a terminal degree in a related field, including medicine, nursing, social work, psychology, philosophy, religious studies, or law. Preference will be given to applicants with clinical experience. Applicants should have strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work and learn independently and collaboratively. Early application is encouraged, as we will review applications on a rolling basis and fill the position when we find as suitable candidate. The starting date for the fellowship is July 1, 2022.
The fellowship includes a competitive salary and is full-time with benefits. This is a clinical position and fellows must be physically on site at our hospital(s) for the majority of work hours weekly. Please contact the Center for Bioethics at bioethics@montefiore.org for more information. Applicants should forward their CV, a letter of interest, and a writing sample to bioethics@montefiore.org with “Montefiore Einstein Bioethics Fellowship” in the subject line.
