The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a full-time Research Assistant for a non-laboratory research position. The individual hired will be responsible for providing research support for faculty members conducting National Institutes of Health-funded projects related to data sharing ethics and policy in the field of genomics. This position is funded through 10/1/2022, with the possibility of extension based on available grant funding. Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Provide research support for ongoing projects, including organizing project files, scheduling project activities and meetings, taking meeting minutes, and coordinating with co-investigators, collaborators, and project personnel across multiple sites to move projects forward
- Develop and manage project databases, including tracking and reporting on project components to ensure timelines are adhered to and are deadlines met
- Develop and maintain manuals of procedures for projects and assist with project protocol development and management
- Conduct comprehensive literature searches in the areas of bioethics, science, social science and health policy literature
- Assist with qualitative and quantitative research data coordination and management, for example, contributing to instrument development and refinement, executing data collection, data cleaning and quality control oversight
- Contribute to qualitative (primarily interviews) and quantitative (primarily surveys) data analysis • Assist with document preparation and references for publications and new project proposals • Contribute presentation preparation, such as pulling data and drafting slides • Serve as communications liaison to promote research team publications and presentations and help draft materials to this end
- Attend project meetings
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in bioethics, humanities, public health, social sciences, or related field • Experience Required: Two years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Education Preferred: Master’s degree in bioethics, humanities, public health, social sciences or related field
- A Master’s degree may be accepted in lieu of required experience
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative methodologies and data analysis software programs (e.g., Atlas.ti, nVivo, SPSS, STATA)
- Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and communication skills required and must be able to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills
