The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a full-time Research Assistant for a non-laboratory research position. The individual hired will be responsible for providing research support on projects examining the ethical, legal and social implications of emerging technologies in healthcare, including digital health and artificial intelligence, computer perception (e.g. digital phenotyping) and privacy-by-design technologies (blockchain).
The research assistant will be part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers led by Dr. Kristin Kostick-Quenet.
In addition to supporting the Center’s robust research program, the Research Assistant will have access to funding for professional development and the opportunity to participate in professional and academic development sessions hosted by the Center. Such development opportunities include journal clubs, speaker series, career development information sessions, peer mentorship, and programming on grant writing, academic presentations, and goal planning. Primary duties and responsibilities:
• Provide research support for ongoing projects, including organizing project files, scheduling project activities and meetings, taking meeting minutes, and coordinating with co-investigators, collaborators, and project personnel across multiple sites to move projects forward
• Maintain project databases, including tracking and reporting on project components to ensure timelines are adhered to and are deadlines met
• Maintain manuals of procedures for projects and assist with project protocol development and management
• Conduct comprehensive literature searches in the areas of bioethics, social science and health policy literature
• Assist with qualitative and quantitative research data coordination and management, for example, contributing to instrument development and refinement, executing data collection, data cleaning and quality control oversight
• Assist with document preparation and references for publications and new project proposals
• Contribute to presentation preparation, such as pulling data and drafting slides
• Attend project meetings
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in bioethics, humanities, public health, social sciences, or related field
• Experience Required: Two years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
• Education Preferred: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in bioethics, law, social or computer sciences, health policy, public health, philosophy or related field
• Strong interest in bioethics, health policy, artificial intelligence, psychiatry and/or related issues
• Experience with qualitative and quantitative methodologies and data analysis software programs (e.g., MAXQDA, Dedoose, nVivo, SPSS, STATA)
• Experience with developing surveys (e.g. using SurveyMonkey, RedCap, etc.)
• Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and communication skills required and must be able to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines
• Team oriented, collaborative mindset with an interest in creating value in any situation with insightful questions and suggestions
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills
Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, understand processes, and resolve issues
