The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a full-time  Research Assistant for a non-laboratory research position. The individual hired will be responsible for  providing research support for faculty members conducting National Institutes of Health-funded  projects related to data sharing ethics and policy in the field of genomics. This position is funded  through 10/1/2022, with the possibility of extension based on available grant funding.   Primary duties and responsibilities: 

  • Provide research support for ongoing projects, including organizing project files, scheduling  project activities and meetings, taking meeting minutes, and coordinating with co-investigators,  collaborators, and project personnel across multiple sites to move projects forward  
  • Develop and manage project databases, including tracking and reporting on project components  to ensure timelines are adhered to and are deadlines met 
  • Develop and maintain manuals of procedures for projects and assist with project protocol  development and management 
  • Conduct comprehensive literature searches in the areas of bioethics, science, social science and  health policy literature 
  • Assist with qualitative and quantitative research data coordination and management, for  example, contributing to instrument development and refinement, executing data collection,  data cleaning and quality control oversight 
  • Contribute to qualitative (primarily interviews) and quantitative (primarily surveys) data analysis Assist with document preparation and references for publications and new project proposals Contribute presentation preparation, such as pulling data and drafting slides Serve as communications liaison to promote research team publications and presentations and  help draft materials to this end 
  • Attend project meetings 
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in bioethics, humanities, public health, social sciences, or related field Experience Required: Two years of relevant experience 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education Preferred: Master’s degree in bioethics, humanities, public health, social sciences or  related field 
  • A Master’s degree may be accepted in lieu of required experience  
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative methodologies and data analysis software  programs (e.g., Atlas.ti, nVivo, SPSS, STATA) 
  • Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and  communication skills required and must be able to work independently and collaboratively to  meet deadlines 
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills
