The Institute for Bioethics & Health Humanities (IBHH) at the University of Texas Medical Branch invites applications for the Clinical Ethics Fellowship, part of our broader Visiting Scholars Program, for July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023. The goal of the Visiting Scholars Program is to give scholars protected time to focus on their research while also integrating them into the everyday life of a dynamic, multidisciplinary institution within a health science center. More specifically, the Clinical Ethics Fellowship provides the opportunity for intensive training in clinical ethics consultation in a variety of health care settings and diverse patient populations, such as critical care, pediatrics, and OBGYN. The Fellow will learn an approach to ethics consultation that is informed by the humanities and will conduct research on bioethics and health humanities in line with their interests. The Fellow will increase the points of contact between the Clinical Ethics Consultation Service and patients, families, faculty, and staff at our Galveston and other campuses. The program is tailored to meet the strengths and needs of each individual, and involves a one-year, full-time commitment with an option to extend for an additional year at the program director’s discretion.
The IBHH is committed to moral inquiry, scholarship, teaching, and professional service in medicine, health care, and public health. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary faculty group with training in ethics, humanities, and social sciences. The IBHH houses the nation’s only Ph.D. program in Bioethics and Health Humanities. More information can be found at https://ibhh.utmb.edu/
Candidates must have a PhD, JD, or MD with preference given to candidates with doctorates in bioethics, philosophy, theology, nursing, behavioral sciences, social sciences, medicine, or law. We especially welcome faculty who will collaborate with other UTMB researchers. Candidates should have strong skills in communications, team interaction, and conflict resolution. They should be able to work collaboratively and independently to achieve goals.
Opportunities for research collaborations exist with more than 40 research centers and institutes located on campus, covering a wide range of research interests including aging, rehabilitation sciences, women’s health, environmental health, translational sciences, infectious diseases, vaccines, and bioethics (see www.utmb.edu/centers/ for more information).

Review of applications will begin immediately with a deadline of January 31, 2022. Start date is July 1, 2022.
