The Center for Bioethics at The Ohio State University is a thriving department which serves as a forum for collaborative research, education, and clinical education. The Center seeks to carry out our vision through education, scholarship, mentorship, and community dialogue that make meaningful contributions to the field of bioethics and bring together academics and professionals across multiple disciplines.

The Division of Bioethics and the Department of Biomedical Education and Anatomy are located in the OSU College of Medicine and serve as the hub for our bioethics education programs. We offer an online MA in Bioethics program, a graduate minor, an undergraduate minor, and a clinical bioethics fellowship. We also provide education for the College of Medicine and serve the Wexner Medical Center through clinical ethics consultation. The Center is at an exciting time of expansion in our educational offerings and is seeking faculty for both graduate and undergraduate courses. The Center is committed to supporting a diverse faculty and seeks colleagues who will help foster a scholarly community in which all individuals are safe, valued, and supported.

Overview of Position
The position is for the Instructor or Assistant Professor level and is envisioned as a non-tenure seeking position. The position’s primary responsibilities will involve teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Specific role expectations include:
• Teaching 2 courses during both the Spring and Autumn semesters, with the potential of teaching during the Summer
• Mentorship of graduate students throughout their capstone projects
• Development of curriculum or courses
• Service on department committees
• Pursuit of independent and collaborative scholarship

Successful applicants will:
• Have strong interpersonal and teaching skills, with an interest in mentorship
• Have a record of scholarship in bioethics, philosophy, moral inquiry, medicine, medical humanities, or related areas
• Be comfortable working in both in person and online settings
• Enjoy working in a collegial team environment with collaborative relationships across the university

Desired Qualifications
• Terminal post-graduate degree (PhD, JD, MD, etc.) in a field related to bioethics or health humanities, or a professional degree with additional ethics qualification is required
• History of successful teaching and mentoring for graduate and undergraduate students
• Demonstrated record of scholarship in bioethics
• Areas of expertise in research ethics or neuroethics are strongly desired

Applicants should submit the following:
• Cover letter addressed to the search committee
• Recent CV or resumé
• Statement of teaching philosophy
• Names of three references. Letters of recommendation may be requested if you are selected as a finalist.

The search will be ongoing until a candidate is identified. Review of applications will begin immediately, with an expected timeline of first-round interviews in late May and campus visits for finalists in June. The position’s anticipated start date is August 2022.
