Cook Children’s is looking for a Clinical Medical Ethicist. In this role, you will be responsible for providing leadership through ongoing development, implementation and oversight of ethical consultation, collaboration, and education. You will facilitate appropriate and timely utilization of the Ethics Committee and will work directly with care providers, families, patients, researchers, and committees to facilitate decisions and policies that are consistent and congruent with the Cook Children’s Promise.

Education and Experience:

A PhD is required along with specialized education and training in clinical ethics.
Three to five years’ experience in providing healthcare ethics case consultation and addressing, analyzing, and resolving clinical-ethical challenges and problems including experience in designing and teaching educational programs in clinical ethics is required.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills in order to mediate moral disagreements or concerns and develop consensus, compromises, or other ethically acceptable resolutions.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and assess the ethical rationales for different goals and treatment options in the care of specific patients, including a facility with the language, concepts, and methods of clinical ethics.
Ability to conduct and facilitate ethics-specific communications within multidisciplinary teams and between teams and patients/families.
Remaining current in the fields of bioethics, health law, philosophy, and religious ethics

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification:

Healthcare Ethics Consultant – Certified within two years of hire.
