The Mercer University School of Medicine has three four year- medical school campuses located in Macon, Georgia: Savannah, Georgia; and Columbus Georgia. The candidate for this position will be based primarily in Columbus though there is an expectation that all bioethics and professionalism faculty will teach on all three campuses both virtually and physically. The selected candidate will work closely with the chair, Department of Bioethics and Medical Humanities (Brian H. Childs, PhD—for inquires email childs_bh@mercer.edu) and the other faculty in the department in creating an integrated ethics and humanities curriculum in both the pre-clinical and clerkship years. Faculty are engaged in a variety of pedagogical modes including Team Based Learning and Problem Based Learning. In addition the selected candidate will be involved in special programs such as faculty development in ethics education, teaching and grand rounds in our affiliated medical centers, sponsoring student projects and research in bioethics and the medical humanities, providing resources to the greater community, well as faculty committee participation.
The Doctor of Medicine curriculum has been organized and designed to support the mission of the school to train physicians to meet the healthcare needs of rural and other underserved areas of
Georgia. The curriculum is patient-centered, providing early application of medical and clinical knowledge in a variety of classroom and clinical venues. The program fosters the development of independent, life-long learning.
In addition to the Doctor of Medicine program, the medical school also offers the following degrees: a Master’s in Pre-Clinical Science; a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences; a Doctor of Philosophy in Rural Healthcare Sciences; and a Master’s in Family Therapy.
